National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Sally-Ann is able to see National Disability Insurance Scheme -funded clients who are ‘self-managed‘ and or ‘plan-managed‘. As of 31st March 2019, she will no longer be taking on clients whose funding is ‘agency-managed’ by the NDIS. She is nevertheless willing to guide clients as to how they can transfer to either ‘self-managed’ or ‘plan-managed’ funding. It is her belief that ‘self-managing’ one’s child’s funding offers one more choice and control over the services once is able to access.

The age range for funding in South Australia is for children aged between 0-13 years. To find out more about the NDIS, clients are advised to go onto the NDIS website: http//www.ndis.gov.au

DisabilityCare will deliver a life-long approach to support people with disability through community linkages and individualised funding. This means rather than providing support based on the number of places in a limited number of programs, the scheme will provide funding so people can get the support they need, based on their individual support needs, goals and aspirations.’

To participate, your child will need to meet age, residence, disability or early intervention requirements.

Age requirements: For the first stage, from 1 July 2013, your child will need to be born on or after 2 July 2007.

Residence requirements: Your child will need to

be an Australia citizen or a permanent resident of Australia or a New Zealand citizen who is a Protected Special Category Visa holder and
spend most of the time living in South Australia and
be living in South Australia on 1 July 2013 or
come into your care after 1 July 2013 and you were already living in South Australia on 1 July 2013.

A child born in South Australia after 1 July 2013 with at least one of their parents living in South Australia on the day they were born would meet the residence requirements.

Disability requirements :Your child can meet the disability requirements if they have a permanent impairment and:

cannot join in activities or do things without assistive technology, equipment (other than commonly used items such as glasses) or home modifications or
usually requires help from other people to join in or do things.

Early intervention requirements:

Your child can meet the early intervention requirements if they have a permanent impairment and there is evidence that shows getting early supports will reduce how much help they will need to do things in the future.

Your child may be able to meet the early intervention requirements if they have developmental delay.

What happens next?

From June 2013, you will be able to use the My Access Checker tool on the website to see whether your child may be able to access assistance from DisabilityCare Australia after 1 July 2013.
