As part of the diagnostic procedure Sally-Ann collects information about your child in a range of different environments such as home, childcare, kindergarten and or school (with parental permission). Parents/carers are asked to fill in a detailed case history and consent form prior to the first consultation so that Sally-Ann can gain insight into your child before the assessment. This allows her to spend more time focussing on your child during the assessment.

During the initial assessment, Sally-Ann might ask you for clarification about certain information in order to gain a clear understanding of how you and others view your child’s communication, general behaviour and social and imaginative play. Sally-Ann works in collaboration with other professionals who might be involved in formulating an accurate diagnosis of your child. These include your child’s General Practitioners (GP), Paediatrician, Child Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, childcare workers, kindergarten and school teachers. This collaboration ensures an accurate description of your child’s development.

The assessment is carried out in a child-friendly home environment. The child is observed both outside in the garden as well as in the playroom. The environment is geared towards making the children feel ‘at home’.
